Well, if anyone has any questions or anything I figured I would start this post.

Yay Eric is using the forum! Ok I have a question about the difference between the mole and avogadro's number on the study guide. Any idea what the difference is other than one being a number and one being 12g of the carbon-12 isotope?

A mole is used to show an amount of a substance, like 6.02 X 10^23 particles of something, while Avogadro's number is just a number, it represents something frickin' huge, no real substance behind that... I hope it helps.

I have a question on # 12 on the study guide, what exactly am I supposed to say?

And number 25 part A on the SQ, you can't have an even amount of neutrons and electrons for Carbon-13, what am I supposed to do?

Ok, about the question 25 part A...They just want to know how many neutrons, protons, and electrons are in a carbon-13 isotope. They are not all supposed to be the same number. The atomic number for carbon is 6...so that tells you the number of protons and electrons in the carbon atom. Now, if atomic mass is defined as: (Protons + Neutrons), and the atomic mass of the carbon-13 isotope is 13...You should be able to figure out how many neutrons there are in the isotope. I'm not quite sure why you were trying to make them all the same number, because it is impossible in that example.

I don't think Mr. Kirk wanted us to go past question 8 on the study guide, so I'm not sure what that question even means.

Also, thanks for the reply on the mole question; it makes sense to me now.

Yeah, yeah makes sense, but it just works for all the others why I am confused, oh well, I guess it's a question for the Capt.

Alright, I'll stop then.

No problem, bro, that's what this is for!

Well, they shouldn't be the same for the others, either. The protons and electrons should be the same because of the atomic number, but the neutrons should be different for each sub-question. I'll have to show you tomorrow, it'll make sense once you see it.

I have a question on the study guide for chapter I. Question 4, why is a molecule always a compound? I said it wasn't because the molecule O2 is not a compound, but is still a molecule. Any ideas?

Also, as an announcement to all who use this forum: Do not abuse the priveleges given to you on this forum. This forum is for questions and answers related only to AP Chemistry. If I find you posting random things and cluttering the bandwidth of this forum, I will delete your irrelevant posts as a warning and ban you from using the forum if you still do not cease. Alrighty sounds good.

Well, a molecule is always a compound as I expected before you persuaded me otherwise, because all a compound has to be is a multiple, more than one atom.

Thanks for the warning... hahah

Oh yeah, that makes sense. It's strange because Bobby was the one who persuaded me otherwise on that question...I had it right the first time Mad Well, I'll have to tell him this. I should probably post that warning on a separate thread so that everyone will read it. It wasn't strictly for you lol

I know, I was just thanking you.

But yeah, you should have just a whole warning thread, b/c I doubt people will look at this one after today.

Yeah, they won't even bother after today. It's going to be pretty awesome in a few weeks. We'll have posts from every day on here and people can look back and study for the AP Test and everything. I just posted the warning on a separate thread. Did it show up for you yet?

Yes it did.

I know, we can look back and laugh at the dumb questions we asked.
I'm super excited about this actually, it's a great idea, I'm glad the capt shared it.
But this will be extremely handy in the coming year.
